Woodless Crematorium Project
Project Leader : Sunil K Gulati IAS ( Retd.)
Implementation Team Leader: Dr. Ramji Jaimal
In the times of COVID, the cost of the final journey has become a cause of concern. A dedicated team of environmentalists Dr. Ramji has been silently motivating villagers for self-funded green crematoriums for the last 12 years which have been very successful and use only 60 kg biofuel for the first cremation and half of that for subsequent once in a hot furnace. Turnaround time also comes down to 3 to 4 hrs. The project report for making Woodless Cremation Crematorium has been inspired by that. Dr. Ramji has given his kind consent to supervise the project implementation in the field.
The team of specialized masons with firebricks and Steel structure brings their set up from Punjab and installs the same in 5 working days if the site is level and ready. But the idea extends further to use the savings in cremation to create a green garden/park with walkways full of trees, flowers, and flowering plants so that people come to the cremation ground for their daily walk and go back with the thought of giving back to the society whatever they can.
The cost of the Woodless Furnace is Rs 3 Lakhs including three trays so that the next WOODLESS cremation if at all required can happen after 3 to 4 hours. Wood is replaced by Cowdung sticks for which the project costs about Rs 3.05 Lakhs and has been given separately.
Detailed Project report is uploaded and anybody interested can contact the Project leader Sh. Sunil K Gulati IAS (Retd.) regarding the Project on 9650334888 and book the Project for their area. Pictures given are from websites and are only for display purposes with no responsibility at our end.
The project for making Cowdung sticks that can be sold at crematoriums, Dhabas, Brick kilns etc involves an investment of about Rs 1.9 Lakh on Dewatering machine, Rs 0.65 Lakhs on Stick extruder and 0.5 Lakh on drying racks (Gross Rs 3.05 Lakhs). This set up can become viable with a little bit of institutional support (continuous electricity, water supply without delay) and societal mindset change, can give direct employment to 4 persons besides some indirect employment. The sticks can be sold at cremation grounds, Dhabas, Brick kilns or anyone using fuel.
It is a highly eco-friendly biofuel with half the ash as wood and much lower methane emissions. Finally every tree saved is like a tree planted so state governments, NGOs and public must make these as the fuel of their first choice, especially for cremation purposes. Also this will save the drains from being clogged and reduce methane emitted by rotting cowdung. There is a risk that once these sticks become popular, the cowdung price may go up, but that is not likely in the near future. Also additives can give value added sticks that can get better price and make a difference.
Detailed Project report is uploaded and anybody interested can contact the Project leader Sh. Sunil K Gulati IAS (Retd) regarding the Project on 9650334888 and book the Project for their area, only if they have a Team/SHG which will produce the Cowdung sticks and sell them for sure.
